Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-12. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

Conduct industrial security surveys, probes, and audits at the Western Currency Facility and at contractor plants.
Analyze production cycles and procedures to determine the adequacy of product security and determine whether established procedures are adequate to maintain product security.
Recommend improved security measures where necessary and reports upon the necessity for corrective action when irregularities are discovered.
Analyze, establish procedures, and monitor the shipment of all security items to and from the BEP Washington Facility, issuing agencies and contracting facilities.
Investigate all WCF product discrepancies (overages and shortages], not only at contractor facilities, but also at Federal Reserve Banks and other issuing agencies. You will conduct investigations to determine whether discrepancies are as the result of work-related errors or theft. As required, you will coordinate investigations with other agencies such as Secret Service.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. SUITABILITY, CLEARANCE & REQUIREMENTS: A background investigation will be required for all new hires. Appointment will be subject to the applicant’s successful completion of a background investigation and favorable adjudication. Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:

For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service.

Specialized experience for this position includes:

Conducting security surveys, audits, probes, or project reviews to identify work-related errors or security issues; AND
Analyzing aspects of internal control systems (e.g. quality control systems, standard operating procedures, general policies or procedures) and determining their effectiveness or efficiency; AND
Safeguarding and handling sensitive records, reports, materials, and securities; AND
Drafting reports that include conclusions and recommendations.

For the GS-11, specialized experience is one year (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-09 level, or equivalent that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience includes:

Assisting with conducting audits, probes, or project reviews to identify work-related errors or security issues; AND
Reviewing reports and investigations for indications of improper activities and identifying potential problems; AND
Safeguarding and handling sensitive records, reports, materials, or product.

OR

You may qualify with a Ph. D. or equivalent graduate degree.

OR

3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR LL.M., if related.

OR

You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

For the GS-09 specialized experience is one year (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-07 level, or equivalent that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized experience includes:

Assisting with reviewing reports and investigations for indications of improper activities and identifying potential problems; AND
Safeguarding and handling sensitive records, reports, and materials; AND
Reviewing security guidance to identify general policies and procedures.

OR

You may qualify with a Master’s or equivalent graduate degree.

OR
2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. OR LL.B. or J.D., if related.

OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

The facility typically shuts down annually between Christmas and New Year’s Day. As such, all BEP employees must take leave for workdays during the shutdown period.

The successful candidate will also be enrolled into FBI’s Rap Back service, which will allow Treasury to receive notification from the FBI of criminal matters (e.g., arrests, charges, convictions) involving enrolled individuals in near real-time.
