Summary:

The Security Operations Manager is responsible for providing manager level leadership for the staff and operations of the Security Department. In addition, the Manager provides leadership support to the Security Director.

The Manager collaborates with the Director to champion security initiatives across the Health System with the principal goal of minimizing security risks and/or threats to patients, visitors, staff and property, thereby contributing to a safe, peaceful and healing environment.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree OR in lieu of bachelor’s degree at least five (5) years of experience managing a security department and program in a setting which is materially equivalent in size, scope and complexity as the Health System.

A minimum of three (3) years’ experience and proven ability in managing a security department in a healthcare setting;

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; and

Proficiency in MS Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, with the ability to master other software programs as needed to effectively perform job duties;

Demonstrated ability to effectively function and lead during stressful, emergent and crisis situations.

Preferred Qualifications

Law enforcement or governmental security agency experience;

International Association for Hospital Safety and Security Certification

Master’s Degree in business or other related field; or

Professional certification(s) related to security from a nationally recognized organization.

Responsibilities:

1. Responsible for participating in North Oaks Workplace Violence Prevention Program and assists in creating awareness and providing interactive education for staff.

2. Mentors security team members and follows processes which all officers are at all times duly oriented, trained, educated and competent to effectively and timely respond to security incidents as they arise.

3. Serves as a Security Department liaison throughout the Health System as an available resource and subject matter expert on issues related to security.

4. Serves as a member of the Workplace Violence Prevention Committee.

5. Maintains competency in administration of the employee badging system and resolving related issues in accordance with applicable policies.

6. Openly and timely communicates all relevant issues to the Director.

7. Facilitates the collection of accurate data and assists with analysis, tracking and trending of security incidents.

8. Participates in the recruitment, interviews and retainment efforts of staff.

9. Oversees the department schedule.

10. Assists with maintaining up-to-date job descriptions for staff and timely completes staff evaluations as assigned.

11. Effectively utilizes surveillance systems and software for video sequestration or for other needs as may be directed.

12. Maintains close working relationships with detail officers and local law enforcement leaders.

13. Assists with creation and ongoing maintenance of policies and procedures for department operations.

14. Participates in annual departmental operating budget review and identifying capital equipment needs for the Department.

15. Manages staffing to meet productivity of the Security Department within approved standards.

16. Assists Director with review of contracts and evaluation of contracted services.

17. Maintains competency in processes involving law enforcement to ensures legal and regulatory compliance (e.g. chain of custody and/or evidence collection and submission).

18. Follows and ensures staff compliance with processes for securing personal belongings and lost and found items.

19. Ensures established security posts are covered and that all rounds, schedules, and directives are maintained on all shifts.

20. Participates in and contributes to monthly staff meetings. Holds shift meetings as necessary and appropriate to communicate information timely.

21. Collaborates with the Director to investigates matters pertaining to workplace violence, alleged losses and thefts and wrongful acts of individuals affecting the hospital’s security. Notifies the Director immediately of any unusual occurrences of a significant nature.

22. Monitors and enforces rules related to designated parking areas while also managing Security staff to provide friendly assistance to patients, visitors and staff in need of help with motor vehicle issues (e.g. battery, tire or towing).

23. Follows procedures for accurate release of deceased patients to funeral homes, coroner or other applicable entities.

24. Ensures all security incidents are reported and documented appropriately.

25. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.

26. Participates in hospital committee meetings as required and also attends and as requested serves on professional/civic/service organizations as Health System representative.

27. Proactively solicits input from all departments for improvement of the security program and delivery of security services.

28. Communicates in a highly effective manner with all levels of hospital staff, patients and visitors.

29. Sets and maintains a standard of professionalism and safety within all facilities.

30. Performs other duties as may be assigned.

31. Follows North Oaks Health System’s Compliance Programs and Federal and State Regulatory guidelines.
