POSITION SUMMARY

To supervise, plan, organize, coordinate, and control the activities of the Security department with direction of the Facilities Director. This includes scheduling, training, preparing annual budgets; act as liaison between the facility and local law enforcement agencies, providing reports to the Facilities Manager.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Education
Two (2) years college or technical school; or 1 to 3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Exceptions to these requirements may be made on a case by case basis.

Must successfully pass criminal background check.
Basic computer knowledge.
Knowledge of investigative procedures, de-escalating violence, facility security, infant/child abduction and protection mechanisms.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts; in high, precarious places; in outside weather conditions; and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, risk of radiation and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS

Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan.

Complies with all HIPAA standards.
Acts as liaison between Security Officers and facilities director
Assists the Security Department in establishing operational policies including staff assistance with patient restraint, traffic control, escorting staff, monitoring response systems, investigations, disruptions, etc.
Ensures that security risk analysis and vulnerability analysis is completed for the entire facility
Patrols facility and grounds once every week, alternating shifts, to assure Security Officers are performing duties appropriately.
Assists in developing, reviewing and participating in security training for facility staff including new employee orientation, ongoing education in high-risk areas, etc.
Conducts on-the-job training for Security Officers.
Educates Security Officers in any new policies, procedures, equipment or techniques.
Schedules and assigns Security Officers to cover all shifts.
Schedules vacation and leave time for Security Officers.
Completes time cards for payroll.
Performs the job of Security Officer when required.
Interacts professionally with staff, visitors and patients.
Conducts thorough investigation of incidents
Performs all aspects of care and services in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
Confers with Security Manager to formulate policies, determine need for programs and coordinate programs with plant activities.
Responsible for Security department’s motor vehicles.
Participates in performance improvement and information management programs.
Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful conditions.
Reports to Facilities Director regarding Security Officers performance. Provides input during performance evaluations. Keeps Facilities Director informed of department activities.
Directly supervises staff in the Security Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
Ensures patient and staff confidentiality at all times
Wears identification while on duty
Assists in maintaining regulatory requirements, including all federal, state, local regulations and accrediting organization standards.
Works at maintaining good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.
Resolves staff concerns at the department level, utilizing the grievance process as required.
Effectively communicates administrative directives to staff and encourages interactive departmental meetings and discussions.
Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire safety, emergency management and infection prevention and control.
Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner.
