SENIOR SCHOOL SECURITY MONITOR
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:
This work involves responsibility for crisis intervention in an education program for students.
This position is responsible for the supervision of students in crisis and for providing immediate intervention when incidents occur. Utilizing data collection and assessment strategies, this position provides input to the School Security Teams to determine patterns and causes of deviant behavior. Work is performed under the instruction and supervision of professional staff. This position may supervise a team of security personnel.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:
The following is indicative of the level and types of activities performed by positions in this title. It is not meant to be all inclusive and does not preclude a supervisor from assigning activities not listed which could reasonably be expected to be performed by an employee in this title:
1. Manages disruptive, assaultive and out-of-control behaviors and provides physical
intervention when required;
2. Assists in the classroom when crisis situations require aid and must be “on call” and in
proximity to potential crisis situations;
3. Refers students to school administrator as needed for counseling or discipline;
4. Monitors daily behavioral incidents to resolution and provides input to school security
team;
5. Compiles detailed notes and charts to provide input to treatment team and to assess
patterns of deviant behavior;
6. Participates as a member of the School Safety Team;
7. Attends in-service training programs as required to keep abreast of crisis intervention
management techniques;
8. May provide security for extracurricular activities before and after school and weekends;
9. May assign and supervise work to School Security Monitors.

CHARACTERISTICS:
Good knowledge of the characteristics, problems, and needs of school populations; good
knowledge of crisis intervention techniques; Skill in conflict mediation; Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to prepare reports; ability to be courteous, yet firm, with students; ability to function well in emergencies; good powers of observation, perception, and analysis; good memory; tact; emotional maturity; good judgement; physical condition

SENIOR SCHOOL SECURITY MONITOR
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EITHER: (A) Completion of sixty (60) credit hours of college study in criminal justice,
social and/or behavioral sciences or a related field plus two years of work experience with youths, which involved behavioral modification/de-escalation, violence prevention, conflict resolution or related experience;
OR: (B) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency
diploma and four years of direct experience with youths, which involved
behavioral modification/de-escalation, violence prevention, conflict
resolution or related experience;
OR: (C) Four years of experience in law enforcement. (e.g. Police Officer, Police
Lieutenant etc.) or four years of satisfactory military experience;
OR: (D) An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (A),
(B) & (C) above.
NOTE: Your degree or college credit must have been awarded by a college or university
accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
1. Applicants must have a Security Guard Training Certificate issued for the completion of pre-assignment training, or a Security Guard License.
2. An appointing authority may require possession of a valid Driver License to operate a motor vehicle in New York State at time of appointment.
