Description of Work
Location of Position: This position is assigned to the Security Accountability Section. This position is not assigned to a specific location but the office location will be based on the selected candidate. This position will be required to conduct audits throughout all facilities.
This position will be responsible for providing oversight and supervision of Security Compliance Auditors. This position will also serve as the lead during audit inspections. This position will be responsible for completing personnel related functions, such as NCVIP. This position will be responsible for generating a written report of findings for each facility audited. Reports must be submitted within designated time frames. Reports must notate any deficiencies and recommendations for corrective action. Subsequent follow up written reports must also be submitted, when applicable. This position will serve as the subject matter expert as it related to security audits. This position will assist facilities by providing training directly related to proper security practices. Position will also attend training courses, workshops and/or seminars offered to strengthen knowledge and stay abreast of the latest and most innovative security trends. Position will be responsible for reviewing, developing and updating security related policy. This position will also make recommendations regarding revisions to the security audit instrument.
This position will also be responsible for researching and evaluating the latest security related technology and/or equipment to enhance the operations of prison facilities. Position will make written recommendations to executive management regarding research conducted.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range will be $50,633 – $88,607.

The salary grade for this position is NC14. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:
Considerable knowledge of the most recent and authoritative findings of offender custody, security and program management.
Considerable knowledge of departmental rules, policies and procedures and procedures concerning the custody, care, treatment of offenders.
Considerable knowledge of the basic principles and practices of operating a correction facility.
Extensive knowledge of security and safety measures, regulations and equipment.
Must maintain certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of supervisory, administrative or consultative experience in corrections or related work; or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience at or above the Correctional Lieutenant level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Must be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission
