(Anticipated Hiring Range: $16.14 – $16.67/hour)
Positions assigned to this class maintain a safe environment for library staff and patrons and provide loss prevention of library inventory.
Essential Duties
Education and Experience
Must possess a high school diploma or GED, and one (1) year of paid full-time experience providing security services and resolving conflicts, or related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum Qualifications
The following is intended to describe core work functions of this classification. While the level and broad nature of essential duties may not change, specific work tasks may vary over time depending on the City’s needs.
Patrol library and monitor surveillance cameras to observe any unusual behavior and to prevent vandalism; investigate library property theft.
Enforce library Standards of Behavior policy.
Maintain regulated building safety standards.
Inform the supervisor of any theft, policy infractions, or building safety infractions; correct as needed.
Respond to alarm drops; evacuate the building and ensure it is clear during any fire alarms or alarm drills.
Respond to after-hours security alarm calls.
Assess community service workers’ skills to match library needs; oversee court-ordered community service workers and document their service on official court documents.
Act as a liaison between the security system company and the Library.
Ensure that the building is clear of patrons after closing, and escort staff to their vehicles at night.
Report and document any incidents on or near Library property including injuries and medical assistance.
Support the City’s policies, goals, and objectives and work with management and other staff to ethically achieve such goals and objectives; ensure compliance with safety procedures.

Loss prevention, safety, and security assessment techniques.
Basic first aid and CPR.
Biohazard/Hazmat precautions.
Skills
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with coworkers and other individuals in contact during the course of work; communicating clearly and concisely; following instructions.
Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software and basic surveillance systems and cameras.
Creating and maintaining accurate reports and activity logs.
Taser gun use.
Communicating clearly and concisely while following directions.
Defensive tactics and self-defense.
Pre-employment Requirements
Candidates who are selected for an appointment may be required to be fingerprinted, if 18 or older; successfully complete a background investigation, and employment verification and may be subject to a drug/alcohol test, medical, polygraph, and/or psychological evaluation. Candidates who are appointed will be required to possess a valid driver’s license to operate a vehicle in Arizona or meet the transportation needs of the position.
Physical Demands and Working Environment
The majority of work is performed indoors. Requires frequent walking with some sitting and operation of computer surveillance equipment. May be required to perform a full range of motion with lifting and/or carrying items weighing up to 25 pounds. Some evenings and weekend work may be required.
