Job Responsibilities:
Under supervision of the shift Lieutenant, responsible for the overall supervision of security personnel and inmates assigned to the unit.
Assist with employee evaluations, corrective actions, counseling, etc.
Conduct unannounced inspections of the unit to ensure proper performance by security staff.
Responsible for briefing and training all security personnel assigned to the unit.
Perform routine scheduled and unscheduled inspections of the unit, security devices, and gates for cleanliness, serviceability, and accountability, ensuring compliance with safety and OSHA standards.
Investigate alleged misconduct.
Mediate to resolve issues at the lowest level.
Assist in conducting all counts and prepare written reports as needed or required.
Requirements:
Must successfully complete an eight (8) week SCDC Basic Training upon hire.
High school diploma and relevant experience; a bachelor’s degree in a related field may substitute for experience.
Minimum of 18 months experience in correctional, security, military, or police work; a degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for half of the required experience.
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of employment.
