Responsibilities
Security and Patrol Duties
Performs rounding on all Yale New Haven Hospital owned and/or leased properties as assigned, utilizing standard practices and training to deter, detain all unauthorized individuals or suspicious circumstances and criminal activity. Reports incidents to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
Reporting Responsibilities
Provides written communication through hospital-approved reporting systems affecting the safety and security of the Hospital community and environment.
Support Functions
Performs general support functions to ensure safety, security, and public relations services are provided professionally and promptly. Includes vehicle and walking escorts, money escort assignments, and managing lost and found systems according to hospital policies.
Demonstrates the “I Am Yale-New Haven” commitment
Follows established hospital and departmental safety procedures to ensure a safe work environment.
Attendance and Punctuality
Meets hospital requirements to be on time and ensure proper coverage and service quality.
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or GED, plus graduation from a Connecticut or other POST-approved Police Academy.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years police experience; security experience preferred.
Licensure
Must hold or have held a “Police Officer” POST Certification, a valid driver’s license, an acceptable driving record, and a CT pistol permit.
Special Skills
Eligibility to apply for and obtain a Connecticut State Security Officer License. Must maintain current qualifications, a valid pistol permit, and pass annual re-qualification. Must possess and retain a valid Connecticut Motor Vehicle Operator’s license.
Physical Demands
Must be in appropriate physical condition to perform duties and work in a high-stress environment.
