Job Summary
The Security Officer ensures a secure environment for the museum’s collection, its staff, members, visitors, and volunteers while upholding the museum’s customer service standards. The role serves as a central point of contact for all security and safety matters, coordinating staff assignments, overseeing daily operations, and ensuring smooth communication and operation of security systems.
Essential Functions:
Design and disseminate daily posting sheets detailing staff assignments.
Manage staff movements throughout the day, ensuring timely breaks and lunches.
Ensure a high level of customer service and satisfaction for museum visitors.
Oversee access control and monitor guest compliance with museum safety protocols.
Engage with guests in exhibit spaces, handle questions and complaints, and facilitate entry/egress screening.
Monitor and manage security systems, including CCTV, alarm monitoring, fire systems, and visitor management systems.
Provide loss prevention security for the museum shop, reducing potential theft and ensuring safety.
Receive, process, and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls, directing information accordingly.
Coordinate and maintain communication between museum staff, the security department, and outside agencies.
Regularly check and report on suspicious conditions or individuals, accidents, injuries, and other potential security risks.
Handle evacuations and address difficult situations according to museum policy.
Compile and submit daily shift recap reports, outlining daily operations and any incidents.
Required to work extended hours during early mornings and late nights for private events and programming, where they will enforce event policies and effectively manage the security team.
Assist in coordinating maintenance/service activities and manage event breakdowns.
Offer guidance on museum amenities and promote museum memberships.
Maintain accurate records and produce/distribute incident reports as needed.
Perform safety checks, ensure the security of egress points, lighting systems, and conduct daily shift briefings.
Carry out any other duties as assigned.
Schedule:
4/10 schedule (9am to 7pm)
Flexible to work all days a must
Sunday through Wednesday availability required
Education and Experience:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Minimum of one year of customer service experience.
Previous leadership experience in a team setting preferred.
Prior non-armed security experience preferred.
Required Licenses/Certifications:
Must be able to complete upon hire:
First Aid, CPR, and AED Red Cross certifications.
FEMA Emergency Management certifications
AZ Guard Card written examination.
Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of customer service best practices.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with the public, colleagues, and volunteers.
Familiarity with security systems such as CCTV, alarm monitoring, and fire systems.
Ability to learn and apply CPR, AED, First Aid, and emergency evacuation procedures.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
