The Security Sergeant is a pivotal leadership role within Downtown Dallas Inc. (DDI), responsible for supervising security officers and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all who live, work, and visit Downtown Dallas. The Sergeant provides operational leadership in emergency situations, ensuring swift and appropriate responses while maintaining high standards of service and professionalism.

Responsibilities:

1. Operational Leadership:

Direct operations at incident scenes; alert Lieutenants as needed.
Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of security officers to ensure effective execution of security operations.
Coordinate with internal departments and external agencies to address security concerns.
Provide guidance and oversight into high-risk situations to ensure appropriate action is taken.

2. Administrative Duties:

Assist in managing the performance of security officers.
Investigate and report all findings related to accidents or incidents, ensuring thorough documentation.
Complete daily activity reports, payroll, and equipment inventory.
Maintain accurate records of security activities, incidents, and personnel.
Develop and implement shift schedules to ensure adequate coverage.

3. Patrol and Inspection:

Conduct regular patrols to identify risks and vulnerabilities.
Develop targeted patrols for high-risk areas to address quality-of-life (QOL) issues.
Ensure security professionals follow policies and procedures; provide feedback to correct behavior.
Evaluate patrol effectiveness and adjust as necessary.

4. Training and Development:

Provide ongoing training and professional development for security officers.
Develop and implement security procedures and protocols to enhance team capabilities.
Ensure all officers are up to date on relevant city codes and legal requirements.

5. Community Engagement:

Assist the Dallas Police Department (DPD) and Crisis Intervention with homeless outreach and QOL (Quality of Life) issues.
Coordinate with the Clean Team to address maintenance concerns.
Provide high-level customer service; interact with the public to resolve issues and answer questions.
Foster strong relationships with local businesses and stakeholders to enhance security collaboration.

6. Equipment Management:

Issue and maintain equipment, including radios, bicycles, and uniforms.
Oversee inventory management and ensure timely requalification of Level III security requirements.
Ensure proper functionality and maintenance of security equipment.

7. Strategic Planning:

Recommend and assist in implementing operational goals and objectives.
Interpret and enforce agency policies and procedures.
Stay updated on emerging security threats and best practices.
Develop strategies to improve overall security effectiveness in downtown areas.

Minimum Requirements:

· Minimum of six (6) years of security experience, with at least three (3) years in a supervisory role.

· Prior military or law enforcement experience preferred.

· Experience deploying resources to hotspots and leading operational teams.

· Must be 21 years of age or older.

· Valid State Driver’s License with a clean driving record.

· Level II Security License (or eligibility to obtain one before employment begins).

· Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screening, background check, FBI fingerprinting, and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) test.

· Availability of working early mornings, nights, weekends, and holidays as required.

Education and Experience:

· High school diploma or GED required; at least two years of college education is preferred.

· Completion of requirements for becoming a Commissioned Security Officer in the State of Texas (Level II Security License required).

· Experience or strong interest in law enforcement, public administration, social services, or community development.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and web-based reporting applications.

· Bilingual ability is highly desirable.

Physical Demands:

· Extensive walking, standing, biking for the duration of the shift.

· Ability to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions for the duration of shift.

· Occasional light lifting, up to 20 pounds.

Work Environment:

Moderate noise levels in an office environment with exposure to traffic and outdoor elements.
Frequent public interaction requiring strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
