Description

This Southwest High School Monitor position is divided between Security Monitor duties (0.27 FTE) and General Monitor duties (0.53 FTE). This individual will fulfill Security Monitor responsibilities during the lunch hour and from 2:30pm to 4:00pm daily.

Provides supervision of physical education locker rooms.

Monitors detention rooms, in school suspensions, study halls, cafeterias, libraries, and hallways, controls walking traffic, restrooms and grounds.

Supports staff when requested. May include:

Distribution/preparation of classroom materials.

Distributing messages to classrooms without disruption to classroom instruction.

Use of all office equipment.

Data entry work on District Systems.

Supports Food Service staff and aids in cleaning tables, as needed.

Escorts students to and from classroom as requested.

Reinforces lunchroom expectations according to established building procedures.

Dismisses students in a timely, efficient manner in conjunction with classroom schedules.

Reports violations and other offenses as witnessed, including violations of school rules.

Helps students with disabilities to class, lunch and bathroom.

Intercepts unauthorized persons on school property.

Actively participates in providing overall building security.

Dispenses medications under direction of school nurse.

Supervises students during loading and unloading of buses.

Maintains a professional and positive school environment.

Other related duties as may be assigned.

Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor

Work requires constant monitoring and involves movement for extended periods of time.

Work may involve working outdoors in inclement weather.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:

High School Graduate or equivalent.

Provides front line customer services including welcoming and directing visitors to appropriate areas along with issuing visitor badges.

Informs visitors of the Districts’ building access policy, which in part, requires visitors to sign in.

Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relations ship with others.

Communicates professionally with schools staff, students, parents and visitors.

Supervises students in unstructured situations.

Establishes a rapport with students in order to provide an atmosphere that is safe and conducive to the proper functioning of the school.

Communicates with administrative staff concerning student behavior or attitude that reflects a need for special concern.

Patrols and monitors school facilities (interior and exterior) to maintain order and security.

Enforces school district rules, regulations and policies for the safety and security of students, staff, visitors and property in accordance to established procedures.

Monitors and reports maintenance, graffiti, and safety hazards.

Monitors vehicular traffic on and around schools and reports concerns as necessary.

Questions unauthorized persons on or around school premises.

Observes situations and accurately determines an effective course of action.

Works closely with building principals, monitors, school resource officers and police department.

Assists building administration with student conflict situations as required.

Writes daily summary reports along with detailed student behavior and incident reports as necessary.

Immediately reports illegal act/incidents, any attempts of unauthorized entry and all suspicious activity to building principal.

Contacts law enforcement officials on as needed basis.

Performs all other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
