Position Description: The Assistant Director of Safety and Security is responsible for assisting the Director in maintaining the safety and security of all students, employees, visitors, and assets. This includes working with the Director to develop and implement security policies, protocols, procedures, and training; coordinating with various departments and contractors; and providing supervision and leadership to the security team.

Applicants should understand that this is a physically and mentally demanding position which may require long hours; night, weekend, and holiday work; heavy lifting; and managing stressful situations and conflict.

Required Qualifications

At least 5 years of experience in security or related field; or a 4-year college degree and at least 2 years of related experience; or a 2-year college degree and 3 or more years of related experience

Texas Department of Public Safety Level 3 Security License, Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification, or Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act (LEOSA) authorization.

Experience in law enforcement, civilian, military, or corporate investigations

Experience with alarm, surveillance and recording systems for investigative use

Must have a valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements

Heavy lifting –Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects weight up to 100 pounds occasionally and up to 50 pounds frequently.

Must be able to climb stairs, descend stairs, and run

Possess the physical ability for less-than-lethal defensive and offensive tactics.

Maintain a high degree of proficiency with any weapon which you are authorized or required to carry.

Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and effectively.

Must have the ability to de-escalate conflict and stressful situations.

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Must be effective at listening to, understanding, clarifying, and resolving the concerns and issues raised by co-workers and guests.

Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as necessary.

Strong leadership qualities, excellent administrative skills, with the ability to establish priorities, responsibilities, and organize work for security staff.

Duties & Functions

Maintains an open, positive, professional working relationship with faculty and staff, parents, students, and guests.

Assists all employees in understanding security and operational responsibilities, including through development of security education and motivation programs.

Assists in the implementation and management of tactical operations center, including helping to establish key roles, procedures, and training for operations center staff.

Assists director in leading drills and incident response.

Manages physical access control system, including identity management, facilities access privileges, and access needs for special events.

Utilizes video monitoring system, including forensic review of video recording to support investigations.

Manage TAK geospatial mapping software

Supervises security staff, including performance evaluations, coordinating training, and implementing hiring, discipline, and termination procedures.

Ensures all event security staffing requests are fulfilled and properly scheduled.
