Full Job Description
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is looking for an aggressive, enterprising reporter to join our public safety team. We want a reporter who is adept at quickly filing a breaking news story but is also able to spot the big picture and the deeper narratives. The beat will focus heavily on coverage of local courts. But we want you to cover public safety and courts as a wide-ranging beat – one that offers a unique look at all aspects of our region.
This isn’t a job to simply sit in a courtroom and document events. This is a chance for a strong writer to tell unique tales discovered through the window of criminal and civil litigation in our diverse region.
We want stories about legal issues affecting businesses, higher education institutions and local leaders. We want you to bird-dog public officials and hold the legal system accountable. We want you to take readers behind the curtain and tell the stories of high-profile legal disputes, dogged detectives and unfairly accused defendants. And we want someone who can work across all of our digital platforms and understands the need to experiment with new story forms.
Two to four years of experience in a professional news organization is a plus.
